Why You Need an Employee Provident Fund (EPF) Calculator

The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a mandatory savings scheme for salaried employees in India, managed by the EPFO. It acts as a primary pillar for your retirement planning. Calculating your future PF maturity amount manually can be complex due to the compounding interest and the split between employee and employer contributions.

Our online EPF calculator simplifies this by estimating your total retirement corpus. By inputting your basic salary, your current age, and the prevailing Employee Provident Fund interest rate, you can accurately forecast your financial stability at retirement. Knowing your PF balance trajectory helps you decide if you need supplementary investments like NPS or Mutual Funds to hit your wealth creation goals.

Frequently Asked Questions About EPF Calculation

How are EPF contributions split?
The employee contributes 12% of their Basic Salary + DA entirely towards the EPF. The employer also matches this 12%, but it is split: 3.67% goes to your EPF account, and 8.33% goes towards the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS).
How is PF interest calculated and credited?
The EPF interest rate is declared annually by the EPFO. Interest is calculated on a monthly basis on your opening balance but is deposited/credited to your EPF account once a year at the end of the financial year.
Is the EPF maturity amount completely tax-free?
Yes, EPF falls under the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category. Your contributions (up to 1.5 Lakhs under 80C), the interest earned, and the final maturity amount withdrawn after 5 years of continuous service are entirely tax-free. However, if your annual contribution exceeds ₹2.5 Lakhs, the interest on the excess amount is taxable.
