To use Fiverr well, decide whether you are hiring a freelancer or selling a service. Buyers should define the deliverable and compare the full package before paying. Sellers should build a specific Gig, set a realistic scope, collect requirements and price the work after Fiverr’s fee. The steps below follow Fiverr’s official Help Center instructions checked on October 31, 2026.
Before you start
For buyers, prepare a short brief with the goal, target audience, required format, deadline, budget, examples and acceptance criteria. For freelancers, prepare a portfolio sample you own, a service description, package scope, delivery time, revision rules and any questions you need to ask before work starts.
Fiverr’s current Gig guide says creation and editing are desktop-only. Buyers can search the marketplace without signing in, but you will need an account and an accepted payment method to place an order. Payment methods and withdrawal options vary by country. Buyer path: find and order a service
- Search for the deliverable. Enter the service you need in Fiverr’s homepage search or browse its categories. Use a task phrase such as the deliverable and file type rather than a vague job title.
- Apply filters that match the job. The official search guide lists filters such as budget, delivery time, freelancer level, language and other details. The available filters vary by category, so use the options shown for the service you need.
- Read the package details. Compare what is included, delivery time, revisions, add-ons, portfolio examples and any requirements. Check whether you receive editable files, source files, commercial-use rights or ongoing support if those matter to your project.
- Contact the freelancer when anything is unclear. Fiverr recommends asking questions before the purchase. Some Gigs show a Request to order button. If so, send the project details and relevant files, then wait for the seller’s response. You may also ask for a custom quote.
- Confirm the total and place the order. Choose the package or custom offer, review add-ons and quantity, check the delivery date, and read the checkout fee breakdown. Payment methods vary by location. Keep payment on Fiverr when its Terms require it.
- Submit complete requirements. Give the seller the files, brand details, access level, examples and decisions needed to begin. Do not send passwords or sensitive data unless the work truly requires access; use the safest approved sharing method available.
- Review the delivery against the brief. Compare the files with the agreed scope. Use the order page to communicate about a revision while the order is in the relevant state. Do not use revisions to request unrelated extra work that was not included.
- Resolve issues through the right route. For an active order, the Resolution Center can send a request to the other party. Fiverr says the other party has 48 hours to accept or decline. Completed or canceled orders have different options, so check the current cancellation guide before acting.
- Leave an honest review when eligible. Fiverr’s review guide says clients can review completed or eligible canceled orders. Reviews must relate to legitimate purchases. Describe the quality, communication and value you actually received.

Seller path: create a Gig
- Complete freelancer onboarding. Fiverr’s guide says you need a complete freelancer profile and must use a desktop browser to create or edit Gigs. Read the platform’s Gig policies and prohibited-services rules before publishing.
- Open the Gig editor. The official route is My Business, then Gigs, then Create a New Gig, or the Create a New Gig option from your profile menu. Menu labels can change, so follow the current dashboard if it differs.
- Write a specific title and choose a category. Describe the service in client language. Select the category and subcategory carefully because the guide says you cannot change the category after publication. Add relevant tags that match the actual service.
- Set the scope and price. Fiverr allows up to three packages named Basic, Standard and Premium. Set a delivery time, revision count and price for each. The official guide lists a US$5 minimum starting price, with higher minimums in some categories, and requires at least one revision option per package.
- Explain what is included. The guide allows a description of up to 1,200 characters and up to 10 FAQs. State deliverables, exclusions, file formats, what you need from the buyer and how a revision works. If the project is complex, explain the milestones or scope boundary before the buyer orders.
- Ask for requirements up front. Add questions that collect the information needed to begin. Mark required questions where appropriate. A good requirement list can prevent a project from starting without the files, references or access needed.
- Upload work samples you own. Fiverr requires at least one image to publish a Gig. Its guide says to use images you own and not copyrighted material or images sourced from the internet. Video is required for the Video & Animation category and optional for others. Document-based sellers can add PDFs for preview.
- Complete verification and publish. Complete the required identity, phone and tax steps shown for your location, then publish the Gig. Fiverr says the Gig goes through automatic review and becomes visible if it meets its policies.
- Manage orders and earnings. Review requirements, ask follow-up questions and send progress updates through the order chat. After completion, use My Business, then Earnings to review the balance, transaction history and available withdrawal methods.

Limits and mistakes to avoid
The active Gig allowance depends on seller level. Fiverr’s guide lists up to four active Gigs for new freelancers, ten for Level 1 and Level 2, and thirty for Top Rated sellers. Some categories are vetted-only and need approval. Check the current rules before planning a large catalog.
- Do not use a vague Gig title. Name the deliverable and avoid promising work that the package does not cover.
- Do not underprice revisions. A low starting price can become unprofitable if the scope, file formats and revision limit are unclear.
- Do not use borrowed images. Fiverr’s guide requires you to use images you own for the Gig gallery.
- Do not rely on an outdated fee screenshot. Check current buyer fees, seller share and payout options before setting prices.
- Do not assume every filter or button is universal. Fiverr says search filters vary by category and Request to order is not available on every Gig.
- Do not move a payment off-platform when prohibited. Fiverr’s Payment Terms say buyers may not offer or make payment outside the site for covered services.
Troubleshooting
I cannot create or edit a Gig on my phone
The official Gig guide says creation and editing are desktop-only. Open Fiverr in a desktop browser and complete the required profile or onboarding steps.
My Gig does not appear after publishing
Fiverr says published Gigs go through automatic review and become visible if they meet platform policies. Check the status shown in the seller dashboard, then review the relevant policy or contact support if the status remains unclear.
I cannot add another Gig
Check your seller level and active Gig count. The official guide lists different allowances for new, Level 1, Level 2 and Top Rated freelancers. If you have reached your allowance, follow the current dashboard instructions.
I cannot withdraw my earnings
Open My Business, then Earnings, and check the available balance and payout method. The official withdrawal guide lists country restrictions and waiting periods after changing a payout method or phone number. Do not assume a pending payment is immediately withdrawable.
