For Wati alternatives, shortlist Interakt for commerce-focused WhatsApp and Instagram workflows, AiSensy for a WhatsApp-led campaign operation, or respond.io for routing conversations across channels. SleekFlow suits a shared sales inbox with automation; Trengo suits teams combining messaging with email support. Twilio is an API option for developers building their own experience, rather than a ready-made Wati inbox. Keep Wati if its current channels, automation and handoffs serve your team well. Compare platform fees, active contacts, users, AI allowances and messaging charges separately, then verify number ownership and migration scope before switching providers.

Compare today's product and the real bill

Wati's current site promotes an inbox spanning social, chat, calls and web, plus AI agents, human handoffs and integrations. A comparison that calls it exclusively a basic WhatsApp tool overlooks the current product's scope. Confirm which of those capabilities your actual package contains.

The pricing page presents regional/billing variants, Growth/Pro/Business contexts and additional template-message charges. The reviewed page exposed several localized versions but no reliable region-matched numeric subscription amount. This article therefore does not present an old $99 or rupee estimate as a current universal Wati price. Request the selected region's plan and rate card together.

Keep Wati when agents understand the inbox, flows route correctly and the total bill fits the work. Consider switching for a specific requirement: a commerce workflow, cross-channel ownership, a different active-contact allowance, email support or a custom application. Those are evaluation triggers, not evidence that Wati universally lacks those functions.

Messaging costs need particular care. Meta's platform pricing page describes delivered-message pricing by category and recipient market. It also describes free service replies in the customer-service window. However, AiSensy's current page announces service/utility charges effective October 1, 2026, while parts of Twilio's page contain conflicting service-window wording. Do not infer a universally free support bill from one sentence. Obtain the current provider rate card and separate its charges from Meta's own tariff before budgeting.

Six options by operating model

Official sources were checked on October 14, 2026. This is a research comparison, not a performed WhatsApp migration or measured delivery/automation test. Fit recommendations are editorial judgments; examples below are proposed evaluations.

Alternative Useful fit Verified pricing context Principal qualification
Interakt Commerce and WhatsApp/Instagram operations Regional plans, messaging charges and separate AI/CRM scopes Unlimited inbox agents does not mean every sales role/module is included
AiSensy WhatsApp campaigns and an optional chatbot/AI layer Base quote to confirm; chatbot add-on ₹2,500/month for five bots Messaging credits and AI costs are separate
respond.io Shared conversations, routing and automation Starter US$79/month, Growth $159/month, annually billed Growth automation, active-contact/AI allowances and WhatsApp fees
SleekFlow Shared sales inbox and agent workflows US Pro $109/month annually, 500 active contacts, 10 users Region, channel hosting, messages and add-ons affect total
Trengo Email and messaging support together Boost €299/month annually or €349 monthly Annual/monthly conversation pools and broadcast add-on
Twilio Custom WhatsApp integration US$0.005 handling fee per inbound/outbound message Meta charges, engineering and inbox costs additional

Prices preserve their source currencies and commitments. They are not converted or ranked as the cheapest equivalent package.

Interakt for commerce-focused workflows

Interakt presents WhatsApp and Instagram engagement, commerce, automation, marketing/support hubs and a sales CRM. This is a relevant candidate for an online store or sales operation that wants conversations tied to a concrete customer or order process.

Shortlist it when the main job is moving from a product question to an order-related follow-up. A proposed evaluation could identify an existing customer, retrieve the relevant order context and route a question to a human without sending a second promotional sequence. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the required ecommerce connector and package, rather than infer complete order handling from a store logo.

The regional pricing page lists Growth and Advanced with unlimited inbox agents in specified roles, while noting that sales CRM roles are not included in that allowance. AI agents and the CRM have separate scopes. Messaging/template charges are additional to the subscription. Multiple billing and regional figures appear together, so no single extracted amount is treated as the universal monthly quote here.

The potential advantage over your current Wati setup is the fit of those commerce and sales workflows. The tradeoff is module and role scope. An unlimited-agent headline can coexist with paid sales-agent licences or AI usage; count the people who need each type of access.

Skip Interakt if the buying assumption is that every advertised hub, sales role and AI agent is bundled in an entry inbox plan. Confirm the integration's data direction, automation triggers, reporting and number-transfer procedure. The older official blog references to conversation billing were not used as current rate evidence.

AiSensy for a WhatsApp-led campaign operation

AiSensy focuses on WhatsApp marketing and customer engagement. Its offering includes campaigns, live chat and additional chatbot/AI capabilities. It belongs on a shortlist when WhatsApp is the main operating channel, rather than when a team primarily needs an email helpdesk with a secondary messaging integration.

Evaluate it with a representative campaign and inbound reply. Check audience selection, template variables, unsubscribe/suppression handling and assignment to a person after a customer responds. The potential improvement over the current setup is whether campaign and follow-up work is understandable to the staff responsible for it.

The pricing page describes prepaid billing, separately managed messaging credits and chatbot/AI add-ons. It lists a no-code chatbot add-on at ₹2,500 per month for five bots, or ₹2,250 per month billed annually. Its AI-agent add-on shows ₹1,350 monthly with 1,000 AI messages, or ₹1,215 on annual billing. These are add-ons, not proof of the complete platform price. Reliable numeric base-plan cards were not exposed in the reviewed response; request the actual base subscription alongside the extras.

The same page announces India-specific service-message charges effective October 1, 2026 and a 1,000-service-message monthly allowance per number. Treat those as the provider's published billing terms to confirm, rather than assume they are identical to Meta's general page. Ask for a worked invoice covering inbound, service, utility and marketing traffic in your recipient markets.

The tradeoff is several billable layers and fair-use boundaries. The page qualifies some “unlimited” allowances, so the word is not a guarantee of infinite operational capacity. Skip it if you need a verified all-channel support suite or want to decide on an old ₹1,500 starting figure without a current quote.

respond.io for routing across conversations and channels

respond.io positions its platform around customer conversations, AI and workflows across messaging and calling. It is relevant when sales/support staff need ownership and routing across more than one entry point, instead of treating every channel as an isolated inbox.

A useful proposed evaluation is a customer arriving through one channel and later messaging through another. Ask how identity is recognized, who owns the follow-up and how a workflow stops when a human takes over. The advantage to investigate is the fit of those routing and lifecycle rules compared with your existing Wati process.

The current USD pricing page lists Starter at $79 per month billed annually, Growth at $159 and Advanced at $279, with annual totals of $948, $1,908 and $3,348 respectively. Growth adds broadcasts, workflow automation, AI agents and developer API access; Advanced adds capabilities such as webhooks, HTTP workflow requests, multiple workspaces and SSO. An entry inbox price therefore does not establish access to every automation feature.

The comparison lists five users for Starter and 10 for Growth/Advanced, with additional-user charges. Growth and Advanced start at 1,000 monthly active contacts and have AI allowances. A contact is counted when the business or customer interacts by chat/call in the billing month. WhatsApp fees are explicitly excluded. These allowances should be priced alongside message volume, not mistaken for a message bundle.

Skip Starter if the requirement is the Growth-level automation you saw in a demo. Also confirm additional contacts, AI overages and onboarding scope. A shared inbox with many channels still requires explicit data ownership and integration rules for your CRM.

SleekFlow for a shared sales inbox and agent workflows

SleekFlow offers an omnichannel inbox, sales/customer engagement workflows and AI capabilities. It is worth evaluating when a team wants conversation ownership, follow-ups and commerce-related integrations around a shared sales process.

For a proposed pilot, route a new lead to an owner, send an approved follow-up and stop automation after the customer replies. Then inspect how the owner sees the history and how a manager reviews the stage. The potential benefit is the fit of that shared process, rather than a claim that its interface or AI outperforms Wati.

The US pricing page lists Pro at US$109 per month billed annually, $1,308 per year, starting with 500 monthly active contacts and 10 user accounts. Premium is US$279 per month annually, $3,348 per year, starting at 1,000 contacts and 10 users. Pro includes the flow builder, broadcasts and named integrations; Premium adds advanced integrations, HTTP/webhook automation and role-based access. Enterprise is custom.

Essential appears at a lower US$49 annual monthly figure, but the page says it is rolling out by country. Do not assume availability in your region. It also says WhatsApp API/SMS have channel hosting and per-message fees, and contact/user/add-on costs are separate. Unlimited stored contacts are not the same allowance as monthly active contacts.

The tradeoff is scope by region, package and channel. Conversation export is listed in the Enterprise offering, so confirm how you can retrieve the needed data on the proposed plan before committing. Skip it if the lower advertised tier or an unverified export entitlement is essential to your migration budget.

Trengo for email and messaging support together

Trengo brings email and messaging into a team support workflow. Its plan comparison includes a unified inbox, WhatsApp Business API, assignment, labels, internal comments and AI/automation functions. This is useful when email tickets remain a significant part of the workload.

Shortlist it when the same team needs to manage email and WhatsApp with shared ownership. A proposed demonstration should hand a customer issue between two agents, preserving internal notes and making the next response owner clear. Then verify that a parallel email is not accidentally treated as unrelated work when your process requires it to be linked.

Boost is shown at €299 per month on annual billing, with 10 users and 6,000 conversations per year. Month-to-month Boost is €349, with 500 conversations per month. Pro shows €499 annually or €599 monthly, with 20 users and larger pools. Those annual and monthly allowances reset differently; do not compare only the displayed monthly equivalent.

Trengo defines a conversation as a reply to inbound/outbound customer messaging within a seven-day window. That is its own platform billing unit, distinct from Meta's delivered-message tariff. Broadcasting is an add-on, and AI Journeys is identified as beta with packaging subject to change. Include those dependencies in a proposal for campaigns or new AI workflows.

The advantage to investigate is a support-led multichannel operating model. The limitation is that a substantial inbox package may be unnecessary for a solo WhatsApp campaign user. Skip it if the team needs broadcasting included automatically at Boost's starting figure or if its conversation pool does not match your interaction pattern.

Twilio for a custom WhatsApp application

Twilio's WhatsApp documentation provides a developer route to the Business Platform. This is a partial replacement: it supplies messaging infrastructure/APIs, while the team must supply or separately buy the inbox, routing, campaign controls, reporting and operational experience.

Choose it for evaluation when engineering control is the goal. For example, an application could send an order update from its own event system and route the reply to a custom support surface. The advantage over buying an existing inbox is the ability to define that behaviour around your own data model. It is not evidence of lower total cost or less work.

The pricing page lists a US$0.005 handling fee per inbound or outbound WhatsApp message, with Meta charges additional. It also lists a failed-message processing fee and optional messaging features. Some service/utility wording within the page conflicts, so this article does not calculate a definitive all-in service-window rate from it. Obtain the current country/category rate card for the actual deployment.

The tradeoff is ownership of the application and its failures. Someone must maintain authorization, webhooks, delivery-status handling, retries, customer assignment and the records needed for follow-up. A successful API request is not proof that an agent can complete the conversation.

Skip Twilio as a ready-made replacement if the team cannot build or procure that operating layer. Compare its engineering and maintenance costs with the same workflow in Wati or another inbox before interpreting the per-message fee as the whole price.

Transfer the workflow, not only the number

Before switching, document who owns the Meta business assets and WhatsApp number, who can approve provider changes and which destination supports the required transfer or coexistence path. Obtain the vendor's current procedure for your account. Number portability does not by itself prove that old messages, templates, tags and automations transfer.

Inventory templates and languages, contact fields, consent/suppression records, agent assignments, chatbot branches, API/webhook endpoints, reporting and exports. Have the destination demonstrate a sample import. Preserve an accessible history before cancellation and identify which items must be rebuilt or reapproved.

Run a proposed pilot with an ordinary inbound question, an outbound template, a handoff, an opt-out and a failed external-system lookup. For each, verify the owner, resulting automation state, exported record and billable units. Include a customer who replies on another channel if cross-channel work is the reason for moving.

Give vendors the same workload for pricing: users by role, monthly active contacts, recipient countries, delivered messages by category, AI work and channels. Ask for a sample invoice including subscription, taxes, hosting, usage and add-ons. Platform conversations, MACs and Meta messages are different counts.

For campaign links, the UTM builder can help keep destination labels consistent. It does not provide WhatsApp opt-in, message delivery or number migration. Keep those functions with the platform and the people who own the customer conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Which Wati alternative fits a small commerce team?

Interakt and AiSensy are useful initial evaluations for WhatsApp-led commerce/campaign work. Confirm the store integration, agent roles and base-plus-add-on quote. Neither is declared universally cheapest without the same region and workload.

Is Wati still only a WhatsApp inbox?

Its current official site describes a broader inbox spanning social, chat, calls and web plus AI/handoffs. Check the plan's actual entitlement rather than rely on older comparisons.

Which options combine channels and routing?

respond.io, SleekFlow and Trengo are relevant candidates, alongside Wati's current offering. Trengo is especially worth evaluating when email support is central. Verify the channels and routing actions included in the proposed package.

Are Meta messaging fees included in the subscription?

Do not assume so. The reviewed commercial pages separate messaging or channel charges from the platform. Request the current rate card and worked invoice; free or unlimited inbox allowances do not establish unlimited delivered WhatsApp messages.

Can we keep the same number and all chat history?

These are separate questions. Confirm the provider's supported number-transfer/coexistence path and what history it can import/export for your account. Archive required records before cancellation; do not infer history transfer from number portability.

Why does Twilio have a much smaller headline price?

Its quoted unit is a per-message infrastructure fee, not a ready-made inbox subscription. Meta rates and the cost of the application, operations and support layer remain relevant. Compare complete workflows rather than different price units.

Choose the operating layer your team needs

Start with two candidates matched to the job: Interakt/AiSensy for WhatsApp-led operations, respond.io/SleekFlow for cross-channel sales workflows, Trengo for email-plus-messaging support or Twilio for a custom build. Keep Wati when its existing setup works. Require a region-matched quote, a representative handoff demonstration and a written number/history migration scope before making the change.
